FAQs

Who can participate?

The Jr Iron Chef VT Cooking Club 2020/2021 is open to all Vermont middle and high school students, as well as  students of Vermont affiliated programs. While anyone can cook along with the club and use recipes as inspiration, only Vermont middle and high school students and students of Vermont affiliated programs are eligible to be awarded a prize.

How do I find cooking club photos, videos, and updates throughout the month?

We’ll share cooking club members’ photos, skill building videos, messages from Jr Iron Chef VT alumni, and other fun activities to keep you motivated throughout the month. You can find them on our website recipe pages, Vermont FEED’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, and by following the #JrIronChefVT hashtag on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

How do I learn about the next recipe?

Sign up for our Cooking Club newsletter! We won’t crowd your inbox, but send you 1-2x monthly emails about upcoming recipes, deadlines, and other delicious tips and tricks. You can check back on our website, too, which will always be up to date with the current cooking club recipe.

What if I can’t find or don’t like the ingredients?

Make it your own! We encourage you to get creative. Feel free to omit or substitute ingredients. We love your feedback, please leave a comment with your recipe submission.

Do I need to include one local ingredient for my submission?

Yes! Our recipes are chosen to be accessible year round. Learning to source local food supports your local farmer and economy, is fresher and more nutritious, and is good for the environment.

What are the monthly prizes? How will I get my prize if I win?

Each month, we will randomly select five Jr Iron Chef Vermont Cooking Club submissions. We will contact the winners via email and will ship the prize package straight to the winner. Each month prize packages will be posted along with that month’s recipe. Prizes will include a Jr Iron Chef VT trucker hat, a cookbook, a few kitchen essentials, and other exciting items!
