WHAT WE DO

Vermont FEED works with more than 100 Vermont school communities to connect children and families with their food and local farms.  We provide technical assistance to schools, food service staff, tecahers, and communities.  We conduct courses and regional workshops around the state of Vermont.  We create useful tools to help schools connect to farms and farmers, and to successfully design and implement Farm to School initiatives.

Vermont FEED partners with state, local, public and private organizations to provide school communities with the capacity to create local connections and foster sustainable school food system change. Vermont FEED works through school communities to reduce hunger, to improve childhood nutrition, and to create sustainable school food systems incorporating farms  and farming into everyday education and experiences for Vermont's children.

In 2008, Vermont FEED was one of 25 programs throughout the country selected to receive a Victory Against Hunger award by the Congressional Hunger Center, Victory Wholesale Grocers, and the Community Food Security Coalition.

Vermont FEED’s 3-Cs approach

The 3-Cs approach links farm to school efforts in the Cafeteria, Classroom and Community.  VT FEED believes every member of a school and community can play an important role in helping Farm to School efforts to succeed. We believe that weaving Farm to School programs into the fabric of the community is what strengthens and sustains programs and the communities over the long-term.
